When did you start volunteering at Oxfam Birmingham?
I started volunteering with Oxfam last year in November 2015.

Why did you start volunteering at Oxfam?
I am a student and had some free time during weekends, so I thought, “Why not help fix the world a bit?”

What’s your favourite book?
My favourite book is ‘The Time Machine’ by H. G. Wells. Why is this my favourite book? Well, it is because he travels so far into the future and you don’t know what to expect. I also love the ending, how the Time Traveller (as he is known throughout the book), thinks and reassures himself after returning to his own time, that humanity and compassion still exist hundreds of thousands of years into the future, even though everything else seems to have been lost.

Mohamed, can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am 25 years old and originally Somali, I grew up in Denmark living there until I was about 14. I then moved to Birmingham with my parents, two sisters and my brother in 2005 and have been living here ever since.

I speak three languages – English, Somali which is my mother tongue, and Danish due to growing up in Denmark. I am currently studying a degree in Computer Science and hope at some point to make a living from working with computers.

The things that I enjoy the most are – playing and watching football, traveling, doing computer stuff and spending time with my lovely wife and beautiful daughter.
